As we enter 2024, the art world is expected to continue feeling the influence of technology, particularly with the advancements in AI and digital tools. Artists are increasingly embracing artificial intelligence in their work, thanks to the growth of ChatGPT and other similar technologies. This trend reflects the ongoing experimentation and exploration of new artistic practices. However, this year is also seen as a "reset year" for the art world, according to curator Larry Ossei-Mensah. It provides an opportunity for artists and curators to reevaluate the direction of their practices and make necessary adjustments. Artsy spoke with 15 prominent curators to gather their insights on what lies ahead in the art world. Many of them believe that the current sociopolitical climate will have a significant impact internationally. With global conflicts still ongoing and the U.S. entering its 2024 election cycle, politically urgent art is expected to take center stage. Furthermore, these curators express a desire to see the art world through the perspectives of female and Indigenous artists. This emphasis on diverse voices and narratives highlights a growing recognition of the need for inclusivity and representation in the art industry. Overall, as we step into 2024, we can anticipate a continued integration of technology in art, a reevaluation of artistic practices, politically charged artworks, and a heightened focus on underrepresented.
